Outdoor Restaurant Furniture for Extreme Climates: What Actually Works

Aluminium, teak or synthetic rattan — a practical comparison for venues operating in climates ranging from -30 to +40 degrees Celsius.
A terrace is one of the most profitable spaces in any restaurant — it can increase seating capacity by 30-50% in summer. But it requires furniture built for conditions that indoor pieces cannot survive. The climate in Kazakhstan swings between -30 degrees in winter and +40 degrees in summer, with intense UV radiation and heavy snowfall. We have equipped more than 20 terraces across Kazakhstan.
Aluminium: The Practical Choice
Powder-coated aluminium frames are the best price-to-durability option for the Kazakhstan climate. They do not rust, are lightweight and easy to clean. A 60-80 micron powder coating protects against UV and scratches for 7-10 years. Profile thickness: at least 1.5 mm for chairs, 2 mm for sofas. At Phoenix Swisshotel the aluminium collection survived three winters including heavy snowfalls and -25 degree frosts without damage.
Teak: Classic With Character
Teak is the premium segment choice. Natural oils in the wood provide moisture resistance without treatment. It does not crack at -30 degrees or warp at +50 degrees. Over time teak develops a noble silver-grey patina. Annual teak oil application maintains the original golden colour. Price is 2-3 times aluminium, but service life is 15-20 years.
Synthetic Rattan: Resort Atmosphere
High-density polyethylene synthetic rattan is fully resistant to UV and moisture, unlike natural rattan which deteriorates within 2-3 seasons outdoors. At Eden Pool Bar the poolside zone was fitted with synthetic rattan — two seasons later it still looks new. Service life 7-10 years with correct care.
Surviving the Kazakhstan Winter
Aluminium and synthetic rattan can stay outside year-round. Cushions must always come inside. Teak and natural wood: bring indoors or cover with waterproof covers. Chrome-plated metal is more prone to corrosion than powder-coated alternatives under snow and ice.
Budget for a 20-Seat Terrace
Aluminium furniture: from 800,000 Tenge. Synthetic rattan: from 1,200,000 Tenge. Teak: from 2,500,000 Tenge. Prices include chairs, tables and cushions. Umbrellas, heaters and flooring are separate budget items.
